MINNEAPOLIS, April 25, 2000 (Business Wire) - In a move that signals its growing commitment to e-business education, Capella University has added more than 20 new e-business courses to its curriculum, raising its e-business course total to more than 30.
Designed for working adults who are looking to gain expertise in e-business, the new courses help Capella University cement its position as the leading source of online e-business instruction. The courses include titles such as "Business Development for the Web," "E-Business Regulation and Legal Issues" and "Building Strategic Alliances with Intranets & Extranets."
"E-business is no longer simply the domain of a few high-tech startups," said Stephen Shank, president and CEO of Capella University. "Today's wired economy touches every organization and every industry. For that reason, we believe e-business education needs to go further than just basic courses on pricing or marketing online. We don't believe we can effectively teach e-business without offering courses in subjects like ethics, business development and virtual collaboration."
Capella University is an accredited online university that offers an undergraduate degree in information technology, an MBA, and master's and Ph.D. programs in business, education, human services and psychology. Capella University is one of the first universities to offer e-business as a degree program and the only university to offer e-business degree programs completely online.
Capella University offers an e-business specialization in four of its major programs: the MBA, the master's program, the Ph.D. and its certificate program. Most course titles are available in two curriculum formats, a more theory-based curriculum for master's and Ph.D. students, and a skill-based MBA curriculum. Capella University's e-business courses are led by a faculty of e-business consultants, professors and authors who bring a wide variety of knowledge and practical experience to e-business education. Lead faculty members include:
According to Dr. Susan Saxton, dean of the Capella University School of Business, Capella tapped a number of sources when creating the new courses, including its faculty, contacts from the business world and students. Between these three groups, Dr. Saxton said Capella University gained a great understanding of what people are looking for in e-business education.
"We pride ourselves on being responsive to the needs of the marketplace," Dr. Saxton said. "And there's no better way to be responsive than to dive into the trenches and listen to the industry leaders. So when our sources suggested there is a demand for people who understand subjects like e-business ethics or wired nonprofits, we took it very seriously."
