PhD student at Capella University, an accredited online university, featured in book on how nurse educators are changing the world

Pam Blesch, who is pursuing a PhD in Education at the online university, is honored for her decades of providing nursing education in countries around the globe

MINNEAPOLIS, December 10, 2010 – Pam Blesch, a PhD student at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, is featured in a new book titled "Giving through Teaching: How Nurse Educators are Changing the World." Blesch, who is pursuing a PhD in Education with a Nursing Education specialization at Capella, is showcased in the book for her decades of providing nursing education in countries around the globe. Particular emphasis is put on her recent work in Africa, where she has traveled to rural villages in Senegal, Kenya, and Uganda to set up free clinics to diagnose and treat medical conditions and provide dentistry. The National League for Nursing has published the book, which is available at Amazon.com.

Blesch, who has been a nurse for more than 34 years and is an assistant professor in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, said her next trip will be to Belize, where she will bring nursing students to assist her in setting up a community health clinic.

"My goal is to for the nursing students to have a heart for people who are less fortunate than themselves. My goal is to grow them into servants of the community no matter where they are," Blesch said.

Capella's doctoral Nursing Education specialization is designed to prepare master's-level nurses to advance the field of nursing through doctoral research. The National League for Nursing recognizes that this PhD specialization aligns with the Core Competencies for Nurse Educators©, using competencies that are integral to the Certified Nurse Educator® (CNE) exam.
