MINNEAPOLIS, November 1, 2011 – Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, announced today that four faculty members were elected to leadership positions at professional emergency-management and fire-engineering organizations.
Members of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) elected Capella faculty members Dean Larson, PhD, CEM®, to chair, and Daniel Martin, PhD, CEM, to vice chair of the association's CEM Commission. The commission, which is composed of emergency management professionals, serves the Certified Emergency Manager® (CEM®) and AEMSM credentialing programs.
Development of the CEM and AEMSM Programs was supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA), and a host of allied organizations.
In addition, members of the Institution of Fire Engineers ‐ United States of America (IFE‐USA) Branch elected Capella faculty members Scott D. Kerwood, PhD, CFO, MIFireE, president, and Harry Carter, PhD, MIFireE, vice president of the organization.
"These elections reflect the quality of faculty at Capella University," said Micheal Kemp, PhD, CEM. Kemp serves as Faculty Chair, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Fire Services, and Leadership, for Capella's School of Public Service Leadership. "These individuals were chosen by their peers, which demonstrates that they are at the top of their fields in both academics and practice."
