MINNEAPOLIS, September 23, 2010 – Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, was officially proclaimed a "Yellow Ribbon" organization at the Yellow Ribbon Summit in Farmington, Minn, on Sept. 22. The Minnesota National Guard and Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty recognized Capella along with nearly 30 other Minnesota organizations, municipalities and counties for their ongoing efforts to support servicemembers and military family members. Their actions demonstrate a commitment to support military families today and into the future.
"When we rank all of our state's priorities, the first should be taking care of our members of the military and their families. We need to match their commitment with our words and deeds," Governor Pawlenty said. "As a Yellow Ribbon Campus, Capella University is demonstrating its commitment to the men and women who risk their lives and take on great burdens for the cause of freedom."
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a program that creates awareness for the purpose of connecting servicemembers and their families with community support, training, services and resources. Approximately 12 percent of Capella students are affiliated with the military. Military Advanced Education magazine has named Capella as one of its Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities. Capella has also received the Gold Standard designation as one of the top 20 schools named to that list.
