Capella University to Host its 17th Commencement Ceremony

The online university will hold its commencement ceremony in Minneapolis August 7-8

MINNEAPOLIS, August 5, 2009 - More than 650 Capella University (www.capella.edu) students are expected to participate in the commencement ceremony on Saturday, August 8 at Minnesota Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. To accommodate the large number of graduates and guests expected to be in attendance, the online university will separate its 17th commencement in two ceremonies. The first ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. with graduating doctoral students; and the second will be at 2:00 p.m. with graduating certificate, bachelor's, and master's students. Additionally, Capella, an accredited, fully online university, will provide live and archived webcasts of the ceremony for graduates, family, and friends who are unable to attend in person.

"We are proud to welcome our newest Capella graduates as they join our alumni community who participate in nearly every facet of human endeavor," said Chris Cassirer, president of Capella University. "Their drive, determination and dedication to professional excellence and positive social change is what continues to build Capella's reputation as a university which provides quality online education for working adults". Cassirer will also deliver the keynote address for both commencement ceremonies.

In conjunction with Capella's doctoral commencement ceremony, Dr. Charles "Chuck" Middleton, President of Roosevelt University in Chicago, will ceremonially install Dr. Christopher Cassirer as Capella University's fifth president.

Capella University holds commencement ceremonies twice each year: in Minneapolis each August, and in another major U.S. city each February or March.
