MINNEAPOLIS, August 3, 2012 – Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, has announced a new Master of Science in Psychology specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis and a post-bachelor's certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. Applied behavior analysis is a psychological approach that uses behavior modification and other behavior-based interventions and treatments to encourage positive changes in individual behaviors. As of June 30, 2012, more than 36,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella. The learning and career outcomes of Capella's students and alumni can be found at www.capellaresults.org.
"There is a nationwide shortage of qualified behavioral analysts and few educational programs in this field," said Laren Winter, EdD, faculty chair in Capella's Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. "With our new offerings, we are offering an online alternative that provides the academic requirements needed to meet national standards in applied behavior analysis. Our programs include test-prep resources and mentoring from faculty with top academic and Board Certified Behavioral Analyst® (BCBA) credentials, and deep practitioner experience in the field."
Capella's master's specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis is also designed to help students reach their goals in less time and with lower costs. The academic requirements are covered in fewer courses than comparable online programs, reducing the time and financial investment needed to earn a master's degree. In addition, many textbooks are available electronically, a less expensive option than print textbooks. To help reduce costs even further, students who start a Capella MS in Psychology program—including the Applied Behavior Analysis specialization—by December 3, 2012, are eligible for a $3,000 MS in Psychology grant from Capella.
The Applied Behavior Analysis certificate provides an option for those who want a more immediate credential. Students who choose to pursue a master's degree at a later date can transfer all certificate courses into Capella's master's specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis.
