Dr. Rudolph Rÿser, a faculty member with the online university's School of Public Service Leadership, will research the contributions of indigenous knowledge systems of west Mexico to modern food security

MINNEAPOLIS, June 14, 2011 – Rudolph Rÿser, PhD, a faculty member in the School of Public Service Leadership at Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant. He will conduct research in western Mexico and deliver lectures at the Universidad del Valle de Atemajac (UNIVA) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, during the 2011-12 academic year.

Dr. Rÿser's research will examine the contributions of indigenous knowledge systems of west Mexico to modern food security and adaptation strategies in response to the adverse effects of climate change. He will share his analysis with faculty and students by delivering a series of lectures on food policy and non-governmental organizations at his host institution, the Universidad del Valle de Atemajac. The results of his research will also be shared with the United Nations NairobiWork Program, UNESCO and the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

"I look forward to contributing to the constructive and cooperative relationship between the United States and Mexico, and in my capacity as a researcher exploring west Mexico's ancient food security strategies that may help meet modern food insecurity challenges in both countries," Dr. Rÿser said.

The Fulbright program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
