Capella University faculty member receives 2009 Blackboard Exemplary Course Award

Dr. Joe Pascarella, core faculty member in the online university’s School of Public Service Leadership, receives award for the course Advanced Research in Public Safety Issues, Theories and Concepts

MINNEAPOLIS, June 9, 2009 - Dr. Joe Pascarella, core faculty member with Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited*, fully online university that has built its reputation by providing quality education for working adults, has won a 2009 Blackboard Exemplary Course Award for the course Advanced Research in Public Safety Issues, Theories and Concepts. This course is offered through Capella’s new School of Public Service Leadership.

The course, which Dr. Pascarella both developed and teaches, was recognized for “strong organization and high level of interaction contributing to effective student engagement and learning.”

“We feel that this course exemplifies best practices in the development and delivery of an online learning experience and represents a model for other instructors that are looking to establish an
exemplary eLearning course experience,” stated Blackboard President Russ Carlson.

“The course is very current and relevant to today’s public safety issues,” added Dr. Pascarella, who also authors the public safety blog www.publicsafetysignals.com. “It’s an honor to be recognized by Blackboard with this award.”

Dr. Pascarella will attend Blackboard’s annual user conference in Washington DC this July, where this exemplary course will be highlighted at the conference awards luncheon. He will also showcase the course during a special poster session.
