News ReleasesCapella University Learner Receives Women in Technology ScholarshipRobin Bundy awarded $15,000 IT scholarship for degree at online university MINNEAPOLIS, June 5, 2006 — Robin Bundy, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in IT at Capella University's School of Business and Technology, has been awarded a Women in Technology scholarship from the Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT). Capella is an accredited online university and a leader in online education. Bundy decided to pursue an information technology online degree with a network specialty in order to achieve her goal of transitioning from her job as a sewage plant laborer to a high-tech position with growth potential. She expects to graduate in 2007. Bundy recently began working for IBM in the Rational Software division. Bundy, who lives in Detroit, has earned several professional certifications, including: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, CompTIA A+ and Network+, CCNA. The following is an excerpt from the essay Bundy submitted for the scholarship: “My career in information technology is the fruit of my effort to be what I might have been, had I completed college after high school; had I been less focused on making a living and more focused on making a future for myself and my family. After working 12 years as a laborer in a sewage plant, I left the plant to pursue my dream of learning about the ‘information superhighway.’ I didn't really know what this highway was or what it did, and I can't say that I had a concrete plan on how to transition from blue collar to white. But I had what was most important, an unyielding desire to learn and the knowledge that I couldn't continue to work at a job—I needed a career. Making this transition was a great leap of faith and is therefore is my greatest source of pride. I didn't own a computer, had no computer experience, and had not attended school in over 15 years. I have shouted back with a 4.0 grade point average and earned the IT industry certifications I need to work in the field.” About Capella University *Capella University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, located at 30 N.
