Capella University, an accredited online university, begins education partnership with nation's first public community college
The online university will offer benefits to students, alumni, faculty, and staff of Joliet Junior College
MINNEAPOLIS, June 3, 2010 - Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has entered into an academic partnership with Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL.
JJC, the nation's first public community college, has three campuses and two extension learning centers, which support more than 38,000 students and employs over 2,000 faculty and staff. The agreement provides students and alumni of JJC who want to earn their bachelor and graduate degrees at the online university a seamless transfer process and tuition reduction. JJC's faculty and staff qualify for the same benefits. More than 37,100 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), with 32 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, and 48 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs.
"This partnership illustrates the necessity of two-year and four-year college partnerships to be responsive to the learning needs of today's students," said Dr. Gena Proulx, president of Joliet Junior College. "We can no longer assume that students will travel to our campuses—we must meet them at their choice of a learning location."
Capella has alliances with more than 25 percent of all community colleges in the United States. The online university offers benefits to students, faculty and staff of those schools, including: tuition benefits on Capella courses, credit transfers to a Capella degree program, and webinars for professional and personal development.
