Capella University Launches Three Business & IT Bachelor's Specializations

In-demand skills in health informatics, software architecture, and project management are the focus of new specializations

MINNEAPOLIS, May 22, 2007 - Capella University, an accredited* online university based in Minneapolis, Minn., announced three new specializations in its School of Undergraduate Studies. A specialization in Project Management is being offered in conjunction with the university's Bachelor of Science in Business. As part of the university's Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program, specializations in Software Architecture and Health Informatics are now being offered.

Project management employees are one of the top hiring priorities for CIOs, and people with those skills are in short supply, according to a poll by Forrester Research Inc. Capella's BS in Business, Project Management specialization is the fourth project management specialization offered by Capella, allowing students at both undergraduate and graduate levels to choose either a business or IT project management focus.

Software architecture skills also made the Forrester Research poll's list of "must have" IT skills. One of the fastest growing job sectors in the country, software architecture focuses on creating, integrating, and maintaining enterprise-wide software solutions. Capella’s new Software Architecture specialization provides the option to focus on Web, mobile, or traditional software platforms.

Mandated electronic recordkeeping and tightened patient privacy regulations are making health informatics a sought-after skill, as well. Capella’s BS in IT, Health Informatics specialization is designed to help meet the need for these skills, which have also been identified as critical to health care’s overall success by the American Health Information Management Association and the American Medical Informatics Association.

Capella is now accepting enrollment applications for these bachelor's degree specializations. For more information, please call 1-888-CAPELLA (227-3552), option 3, or e-mail info@capella.edu. Review of all three specializations is pending in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, KY, OH, WA, and WI.
