Capella University Announces Online Doctor of Public Health Program
Online university offers DrPH specializations in Epidemiology, and Health Advocacy and Leadership
MINNEAPOLIS, May 21, 2010 - Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality education for working adults, announced a new Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) online degree program that provides one of very few opportunities to earn a DrPH online. The two specializations offered—Health Advocacy and Leadership, and Epidemiology—are also rarely available online. Having online options is important to working adults, and a recent U.S. Department of Education report found that online programs deliver better outcomes than face-to-face programs.
New DrPH features multidisciplinary approach
"Our new DrPH was developed around national public health curriculum standards, and also incorporates Capella's multidisciplinary approach to public service education, which we believe better prepares our students for leadership positions," said Suzanne Holmes, DPA, interim co-dean of Capella's School of Public Service Leadership and faculty chair for public health and public administration.
"To be an effective public health leader, you must be able to communicate and collaborate with other public and private sector agencies and professionals," said Dr. Holmes. "Our curriculum and innovative learning technologies provide opportunities for current and aspiring public health leaders to further develop those skills through interactions with other public administrators, public safety officials, and health care administrators, while also deepening their knowledge of public health theories and practices. With many of the country's current public service leaders nearing retirement, we believe the advanced education and leadership skills offered through Capella's graduate-level public health degrees will become even more valuable in the years ahead." Capella also offers a Master of Public Health with three specializations: General Public Health; Health Management and Policy; and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
