Capella University Receives 2009 Learning Impact Award from IMS Global Learning Consortium

Award recognizes the online university for outstanding use of technology in support of learning

MINNEAPOLIS, May 21, 2009 - Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited*, fully online university, received the highest honor—platinum level—at the 2009 Learning Impact conference in Barcelona. The IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC) awarded its top recognition to the online university. Its nomination, titled "Leading the Definition of Quality Online Education for Adults with a Learning & Career Outcomes Infrastructure," was recognized for exemplifying outstanding efforts in improving education through the use of technology. Specifically, Capella University leverages technology to maximize adult learners' personal and professional potential by detailing to students exactly what they will learn in a particular program and how well they demonstrate outcomes. Reports from this infrastructure enable students to understand how effective Capella is in delivering learning they expect; and Capella to continuously improve academic quality.

In addition to the platinum level learning impact award, IMS GLC also recognized Capella University's nomination as the Best Outcomes-based Learning Solution. Capella University has built its reputation by providing quality education for working adults.

“The judging panel recognized that our academic model helps us to continually impact the quality of the learning experience in our continuous commitment to deliver a superior learning outcome to our students,” said Christopher Cassirer, President of Capella University. “Adults considering returning to school deserve to know exactly what they will learn and how they will benefit from a degree. Our model allows them to make an informed choice.”

The Learning Impact program is facilitated by the IMS GLC for the purpose of recognizing outstanding applications of technology that address the most significant challenges facing the global education and training industries. The Learning Impact Awards are designed to recognize the most impactful use of technology worldwide in support of learning. Nominations were submitted from around the globe, and winners were selected from a group of thirty six finalists demonstrating superior measurable impact on: access, affordability, quality, adoption, accountability, organizational learning, interoperability, and innovation.
