This film tells the true story of Maruge, an old Mau Mau rebel in his eighties, who knocks on the door of a primary school, seeking the free education promised by the Kenyan government to everyone. Through his fight to learn how to read, Maruge and his teacher embark on a journey for a better future for himself and his country. Capella, which offers 14 advanced academic offerings that are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), will be a national promotional partner for the film.
"This story is at the heart of what we do every day—helping others realize the transformative power of education and how it enables each of us to make a difference," said Deb Bushway, interim president of Capella University.
For every view of the official movie trailer, Capella will donate $.50 to partner charities, including Reading Is Fundamental, the South Sudan Institute, and the Kakenya Center for Excellence—up to $50,000.
