MINNEAPOLIS, May 19, 2010 - Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality education for working adults, has announced three new online degree programs and eight specializations in the fields of health administration and public health. They include two doctoral degree programs, a Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) and a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and one master's degree program, a Master of Health Administration (MHA). Capella is also introducing a graduate certificate in Health Administration and a graduate concentration in Forensics.
"According to the National Center for Healthcare Leadership's White Paper on Best Practices in Health Leadership Succession Planning, a number of studies project a drop in the health care leadership talent pool," said Suzanne Holmes, DPA, interim co-dean of Capella's School of Public Service Leadership and faculty chair for public health and public administration. "Our new degrees are designed to develop the leadership, collaboration, and communication skills needed by health care leaders in both the public and private sectors."
Capella's DHA is one of few DHA programs in the country
Designed around the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Competency Model™, Capella's DHA is designed for health care leaders interested in pursuing a doctorate that focuses on practical contributions to the health care field, compared to the more research-oriented PhD. It is one of the few DHA programs in the country and offers specializations in General Health Administration, Health Care Leadership, and Health Policy and Advocacy.
MHA features collaborative learning, industry best practices
Capella's MHA features a collaborative, practice-based learning model that incorporates industry best practices and the knowledge and skill sets expected by leading health care organizations. A master's degree is considered the minimum credential for most health care leadership positions. Designed around the NCHL Competency Model™, Capella's MHA includes specializations in General Health Administration, Health Care Operations, and Health Policy.
DrPH offers specializations in Epidemiology, and Health Advocacy and Leadership
Developed around national public health curriculum standards, Capella's new Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) online degree program provides one of very few opportunities to earn a DrPH online. The two specializations offered—Health Advocacy and Leadership, and Epidemiology—are also rarely available online.
Graduate level Forensics concentration now available
Students enrolled in master's or PhD programs in Capella's School of Public Service Leadership can increase the value of their degree and expand their career options by adding a concentration in Forensics. The three-course Forensics concentration offers a multidisciplinary view of the forensics field, emphasizing its foundations in the physical and social sciences and law, and the professional and legal standards guiding forensics practice.
