Capella University Offers New Bachelor's Specialization in Information Assurance and Security

Growing demand for information security professionals is catalyst for online degree program

MINNEAPOLIS, May 8, 2006 — By 2009, the number of information security jobs worldwide will increase by half a million, according to a survey sponsored by The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2). To meet this growing need, Capella University has announced that its School of Undergraduate Studies will be offering a new specialization in information assurance and security as part of its Bachelor of Science in information technology program. This new information technology online degree specialization will be offered beginning with the Capella's July 2006 quarter.

“National security issues, Sarbanes-Oxley and other financial and health care regulations, and growing computer privacy concerns are driving the demand for assurance and security professionals,” said Keith Morneau, EdD, faculty chair of Capella's BS in information technology program. “This has been compounded by a shortage of specialists in this field and a reluctance to outsource information security jobs overseas. Capella's new specialization is designed to provide students with the technological, business, and communication skills they need to help meet this demand. We are taking an applied approach that balances theory with real world business applications, providing learners with a breadth and depth of experiences in different industries that require good information security professionals.”
