MINNEAPOLIS, April 27, 2011 – Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has released a significantly updated version of its Capella Results website (www.CapellaResults.org), a comprehensive tool for students and the public that supports Capella's commitment to transparency and measurement of student outcomes. The site invites prospective students, employers, policymakers and the public to track the learning and career outcomes at Capella. As of March 31, 2011, more than 39,000 students were pursuing an online degree at Capella, with 31 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, and 47 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs.
"We are extremely proud of the academic performance and career outcomes of our students and alumni, and we believe this site provides a new level of accountability in the higher education industry," said Deb Bushway, interim president of Capella University. "CapellaResults.org allows us to share with the public what we have always known – that Capella students are achieving distinguished performance levels within their degree programs, while gaining critical real-world expertise in the workplace."
CapellaResults.org enables the public, including prospective students, employers and policymakers, to assess the value of a Capella education by providing detailed measurement of student outcomes – the actual skills and knowledge Capella students obtain – as well as graduation and career success rates. For example, in a recent 12-month period, within Capella's Master of Science in Education P-12 specializations more than 95 percent of the students were judged by the faculty to be at the proficient or higher level of performance on all program outcomes. A similar pattern can be seen in the MBA Accounting specialization and the Master of Science in Public Safety and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree programs.
Master's degree alumni at Capella, surveyed one year after graduation, report very high satisfaction with Capella and high improvement in skills and abilities. For example, 97 percent of responding alumni reported that Capella helped them meet their program outcomes. And 95 percent or more reported that they improved in 11 skills and abilities that are applicable in a range of professional settings. Capella's doctoral and bachelor's alumni reported similar results.
Also available on CapellaResults.org are career outcome reports, indicating the progress and advancement Capella alumni achieve in the workplace. Gathered via regular alumni surveys, results highlight improvement in specific skills and abilities, details on career and professional accomplishments, as well as overall satisfaction with Capella. For example, among doctoral alumni who graduated a year prior to the survey, 46 percent of respondents reported they advanced in their career or profession, 49 percent reported they received a salary increase, and 55 percent reported they presented at a conference or published an article, book or manuscript. Almost one-third of doctoral graduates reported they earned a teaching position in higher education; among doctoral graduates from Capella's School of Business and Technology, that percentage is 36 percent.
"We believe quality higher education institutions should measure student outcomes and be transparent in communicating the results of the education they provide," Bushway said. "That is our goal with CapellaResults.org."Capella University (www.capella.edu) is an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing quality online degree programs for working adults.
