MINNEAPOLIS, March 30, 2011 – Naronica Shaw, a master's degree student at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been selected to participate in the 2011 Clinton Global Initiative University. Shaw, who lives in Dallas, will attend the Clinton Global Initiative conference in San Diego from April 1 – 3. Established in 2005 by President Bill Clinton, the Clinton Global Initiative convenes global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges. To fulfill the action-oriented mission, members devise practical solutions to global issues through the development of specific and measurable Commitments to Action. The Clinton Global Initiative University is a forum to engage college students in global citizenship.

To be considered for the Clinton Global Initiative University, Shaw submitted a commitment proposal to better serve minorities who could benefit from professional mental health services. Her proposal focuses specifically on keeping troubled adolescents from being sent to juvenile detention centers, and instead assigning them to 30 days of counseling. She hopes to implement her proposal in Little Rock, Arkansas.
