MINNEAPOLIS, February 22, 2010 - Ron Dickson, a PhD graduate of Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been named the 2009-2010 All Arizona Superintendent of the Year by the Arizona School Administrators and Arizona School Boards Association. Dickson, who graduated from Capella's online PhD degree program for Leadership in Educational Administration, received the honor "for moving his district from a rote-learning, lecture-based instructional philosophy to an approach in which active involvement in the learning process is key to student achievement," said the Arizona School Administrators. Nearly 34,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), with 33 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, and 48 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs.
"I would not have become superintendent if I hadn't been in Capella's PhD program," Dickson said. "I have three degrees - two from public universities - and by far the quality I received from Capella was the best I received anywhere."
Dickson, who is in his fifth year as Superintendent of the Laveen Elementary School District, has also been recognized for his "3 Cs" model of communication, collaboration, and cooperation within the district.
