Capella University, an accredited online university, receives multiple Awards of Excellence from the International Society for Performance Improvement

The professional organization recognized the online university with the Chapters of Excellence Award, and Chapter Communication and Education Award

MINNEAPOLIS, January 31, 2011 - The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) has selected Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, to receive two Awards of Excellence. The online university was honored with the Chapter of Excellence Award, which celebrates the achievements of local chapters of the ISPI; and the Chapter Communication and Education Award, which recognizes chapters that spread and share the performance improvement message to others in academic and non-academic settings.

"It's an honor to have ISPI recognize Capella University's efforts to use technology that enhances learner and alumni engagement within the training and process improvement community," commented Rose Noxon, PhD, president of Capella's ISPI Virtual Chapter and a 2009 Capella graduate.

The online degree provider's ISPI Capella Virtual Chapter was bestowed the Chapter of Excellence Award for its exceptional effort in chapter operations, programming, membership, advancement of human performance technology in the local market, support of ISPI events and opportunities, and other chapter events, projects, and goals. The Capella Chapter was founded by learners and alumni of Capella's Training and Performance Improvement specialization. The mission of the chapter is to amplify and complement the learning and practice of human performance technology. This is accomplished through innovative services that strive to successfully enhance learning, research and professional pursuits in a social networking setting.

The online university's virtual ISPI chapter was awarded the Chapter Communication and Education Award in recognition for developing a resource within its chapter that allows Capella alumni to connect with Capella students who are in a similar field of work. The resource provides alumni the ability to give back and mentor current students. Specifically, former students post project ideas for current learners who are in need of a project and site to complete their work for a core course deliverable. This resource is helpful for the student since the program's deliverables are application based and need to be done in an organization with a performance issue to solve.

Capella offers a master's and doctorate in education with a specialization in Training and Performance Improvement. The specialization's curriculum is aligned with ISPI's 10 Performance Technology Standards, as well as the American Society of Training & Development (ASTD) competency model, and is the only graduate specialization in training and performance improvement that leads to certification from the ROI Institute™. More than 38,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella University, with 30 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, 48 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs, and 21 percent in Capella's bachelor's degree programs.

Founded in 1962, the ISPI is the leading international association dedicated to improving productivity and performance in the workplace. ISPI represents more than 10,000 international and chapter members throughout the United States, Canada, and 40 other countries. ISPI's mission is to develop and recognize the proficiency of its members and advocate the use of human performance technology.
