New doctoral degree program expands online university's reputation as one of the top doctorate granting institutions in the country
MINNEAPOLIS, January 28, 2009 – Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited* online university that has built its reputation by providing quality graduate education for adults, has added a Doctor of Education (EdD) program to its online doctoral degree offerings. The program was designed around the standards of a number of respected P–12 educational organizations and aligns with the Competencies for Community College Leaders developed by the American Association of Community Colleges.
“It's an attractive option for educators who want a doctoral program focused on practical knowledge and applied research that addresses real-world educational challenges and opportunities,” said Christopher Cassirer, ScD, MPH, acting president of Capella University. “We are pleased to be able to offer this new doctoral degree, which will further expand our reputation as one of the top doctorate granting institutions in the country.”
The Educational Leadership and Management specialization under this new degree program was developed to help address the anticipated shortage of trained education administrators due to retirements, as well as the need for administrators who possess both leadership and management skills. Capella's new EdD specialization offers future P–12 and higher education leaders a combined focus on the leadership, career, and business readiness competencies that are increasingly seen by employers as essential. Many Capella graduates already work in educational institutions throughout the U.S. For example, more than 1,000 colleges and universities employ Capella students and graduates in faculty, administrator, leadership and other roles.
Capella is now accepting enrollment applications for its EdD Educational Leadership and Management specialization. For more information, please call 1-888-CAPELLA (227-3552) or e-mail info@capella.edu. This specialization does not satisfy licensure requirements for P–12 public school teachers or administrators. Review of this specialization is pending in AL, AZ, FL, GA, KY, MN, SC, VA, WA, and WI.
