Capella University Introduces New Online EdD degree and Three New Graduate Specializations

New specializations include Addiction Counseling, Global Operations and Supply Chain Management, and Educational Leadership and Management

MINNEAPOLIS, January 21, 2009 – Capella University (www.capella.edu)), an accredited* online university that has built its reputation by providing quality graduate education for adults, announced the launch of a new doctoral degree program, the Doctor of Education (EdD), as well as three new graduate-level specializations. They include Addiction Counseling, a specialization within Capella's MS in Human Services; Global Operations and Supply Chain Management, a new MBA specialization; and Educational Leadership and Management, a specialization within Capella's new EdD program.

Capella, which already is one of the top doctorate granting institutions in the country, launched the EdD program in response to the demand for this degree from prospective students. “It's an attractive option for educators who want a doctoral program focused on practical knowledge and applied research,” said Christopher Cassirer, ScD, MPH, acting president of Capella University. The program was designed around the standards of a number of respected P–12 educational organizations and is aligned with the Competencies for Community College Leaders developed by the American Association of Community Colleges. One specialization, Educational Leadership and Management, is being introduced concurrently with the new EdD program.

The new master's specialization in Addiction Counseling leverages Capella's strong expertise in mental health education to address the growing need for addiction counselors. Capella's Master of Science in Human Services, Addiction Counseling specialization is a rigorous program that includes online course work, residencies, and clinical experiences. It is one of the few master's specializations in Addiction Counseling available for working professionals who want to complete their course work online.

Capella is also adding a ninth MBA specialization, in Global Operations and Supply Chain Management. According to the AMR Research report, Supply Chain Talent: State of the Discipline, supply chain management has become a competitive differentiator, especially in the growing number of companies with global operations. Capella's new MBA specialization is one of the few in the country that offers a combined focus on operations and supply chain management, especially from a global perspective.

Capella is now accepting enrollment applications for these specializations. For more information, please call 1-888-CAPELLA (227-3552) or e-mail info@capella.edu.
