Dr. Cole Edmonson Joins Capella School of Nursing and Health Sciences Advisory Board

Nursing industry veteran working with Capella leaders to evolve advanced degree programs

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Capella University, (http://www.capella.edu), a regionally accredited online university which offers online degree programs to help working adults advance in their careers, announces today that Cole Edmonson, DNP, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, FAAN, has joined Capella’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences Advisory Board.

For the past 20 years, Edmonson has served in a variety of leadership roles including direct-care nurse, supervisor, manager, director and associate chief nursing officer. He currently serves as chief nursing officer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.As a member of the advisory board, Edmonson will collaborate with Capella leaders and faculty to help curricula effectively build the competencies for today’s complex health care environment.

“By working closely with industry experts at the frontlines of health care, Capella is constantly evolving its models of teaching and learning, with the goal to close the gap between higher education and patient care,” said F. Patrick Robinson, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean of Capella’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences. “Dr. Edmonson will provide the board with invaluable insights on how Capella can help equip tomorrow’s nurse leaders with the right competencies.”

Capella’s advisory board provides industry and practice-relevant insight to school leaders and faculty to enact on the mission of the school to meet the needs found within the health care sector. Interactions between the board and Capella leadership and faculty ensure Capella’s programs are professionally relevant and provide the flexibility needed for learners to succeed in their educational programs, and have a positive impact on patient, systems, and population outcomes.

“Facing today’s health care challenges will require a highly adaptive, creative and courageous professional who understands systems and is comfortable working in complexity,” said Edmonson. “A critical shift is happening in health care, and that transformation will need partners in education that are doing the same. Edmonson earned his BSN and MSN from the University of Oklahoma. He earned his DNP from Texas Christian University.
