Career Counselor #6185

This position is responsible for providing career counseling and advising support to prospects, learners and alumni in an assigned School(s) to help them successfully develop and reach career goals within a positive, supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide distance career counseling and advising for assigned prospects, learners and alumni including all aspects of career development and planning. Typical advising topics include, but are not limited to clarification of career goals; teaching job search strategies; discussing career enhancement strategies; reviewing resumes, CVs and cover letters; and planning for further graduate study.
  • Serve as a proactive liaison with the faculty and staff with their assigned School(s) to integrate career development and planning information and activities into the curriculum, provide career outcome data, and work to creatively meet the changing career needs of their learners. This liaison role will emphasize outreach to key school staff and faculty to form partnerships to aid the career development of the learners.
  • Create and deliver appropriate career services interventions for learners and alumni at colloquia.
  • Teach and facilitate career seminars (online and in-person) and Career Exploration and Planning course within the Capella courseroom.
  • Create career related content and guidance for learners, alumni, and staff/faculty within the online Career Center.
  • Participate in the ongoing training of Academic Advisors and Enrollment Counselors to help these groups market services, refer learners, and in some cases, provide career services directly to learners.
  • Work within the Career Services team to provide resources, proactive support, and tactical intervention to enhance learner retention.
  • Use ERP system to track and report prospect, learner and alumni interactions.
  • Assist in improving processes for collecting, analyzing and reporting career outcome data.
  • May perform other duties as apparent or assigned as the career services area develops and grows.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree in Counseling or related field
  • Experience: 2-3 years experience of strong accomplishments in career services required; 4+ years preferred.
  • Willingness to travel 4–6 weeks per year for Residential Colloquia.
  • Background in counseling and advising adult learners a definite plus.
  • Seeking high-energy performers with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to coordinate projects.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to adapt to a fast-paced for-profit educational environment desired.

This position is based in Capella's corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota and relocation assistance is not provided.
