Associate Dean, HASoP #6834

We are seeking a leader in higher education with proven success overseeing programs for adult learners. Reporting to the Dean of the Harold Abel School of Psychology, the Associate Dean is a full-time leadership and management position located in Minneapolis and will oversees the program development, administration and the delivery of specializations that include current graduate degrees in Educational Psychology, I/O Psychology, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling Psychology and General Psychology.

Responsibilities:

  • The Associate Dean is responsible for curriculum development and maintenance as well as faculty management. The Associate Dean leads the Program and will be responsible for the coordination, development and evaluation of the aforementioned specializations at Capella University and for representing these programs to internal and external constituencies
  • The Associate Dean is responsible for the Learning Experience by assuring academic quality maintaining an optimum learning environment for faculty and learners in the assigned areas of specialization.
  • The Associate Dean is responsible for accreditation oversight, governance and scholarly activity related to these program specializations
  • Connects with portfolio strategy team as liaison to chairs of program specialization ensuring that academic perspective be shared
  • Qualifications:

    • Essential Skills
      • Ability to develop, coordinate/organize, implement and communicate strategic plans, in partnership with the Dean for the school
      • A commitment to academic excellence; ability to advance the quality and content of programs, courses and initiatives
      • Strong organizational skills applicable to operational and logistical tasks
      • Ability to work within a for-profit setting where integrated (matrixed) academic-business culture characterizes the daily work environment
      • Ability to build leadership capacity in the school by hiring, mentoring and coaching faculty chairs and/or faculty, maintaining positive connections with remote faculty and learners. Role requires ability to working as a collaborative member of cross-functional business teams as well as demonstrated team-based and dispersed workforce leadership skills; (both within and across schools)
      • Ability to nurture professional relationships through outreach, collaboration and goodwill.
      • Ability to articulate and model Capella's core values;
    • Experience
      • Significant experience as a leader and practitioner in higher education; a minimum of 5 years teaching in a relevant educational setting; experience with on-line learning or equivalent expertise relevant to education with experience chairing dissertation committees and conducting research preferred
      • 2-4 years of management experience in a higher education environment, as department chair; and/or experience in a leadership capacity in the industry or discipline preferred.
    • Education
      • Candidates must have an earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited university, have experience in administrative leadership in higher education and demonstrated contribution to the discipline such as publishing, committee involvement and professional association involvement.

      This position is based in Capella's corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota and relocation assistance is provided.
