Dissertation Chair Faculty
Responsibilities:
Capella School of Education dissertation "Mentor only" faculty are adjunct, part-time faculty members who serve as chairs (mentors) of dissertation committees in an independent contractor capacity. The position involves a specialized role supervising doctoral learners and participating on related committees. Dissertation mentors work with learners to create a positive learner experience and ensure that dissertations are consistent with prevailing standards for scholarship by providing direction and supportive interaction throughout the phases of the dissertation. As supervisors of dissertation committees, mentor-only faculty are expected to be experts in the subject matter of their specialization. Mentor-only positions are available in the following P-12 and higher education specializations: Curriculum and Instruction, Professional Studies, Post-Secondary and Adult Education, Nursing Education, Special Education Leadership, Instructional Design for Online Learning, Leadership in Higher Education, Leadership in Educational Administration, K-12 Studies, and Training and Performance Improvement.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications - Dissertation Mentor Faculty
- PhD or EdD from a regionally accredited institution required
- College level teaching experience of 3 years or more
- Experience supervising doctoral students
Preferred Qualifications - Dissertation Mentor Faculty
- Strong research background
